Altus for Project - Corporate deployment

Warning

In a corporate environment where end-users lack administrative permissions on their local computers, the in-product auto-update feature will not function. It is important that Altus for Project receives regular updates and he version matches or exceeds the deployed Altus version. If you opt for this approach, you will need to repackage and distribute updates to your end-users. Failure to do so may result in end-users losing the capability to connect from Microsoft Project to Altus.

The deployment of this Add-in tool may be managed by your organisation via an InTune release.

NOTE: To deploy modern apps, you need at least:

Only Windows 10 1803 and later support installing apps when there is no primary user associated. LOB app deployment is not supported on devices running Windows 10 Home editions.

Apps can only be installed in the device context when supported by the device and the Intune app type. Device context installs are supported on Windows 10 desktops and Teams devices, such as the Surface Hub. They are not supported on devices running Windows Holographic for Business, such as the Microsoft HoloLens.

Administration requirements:

  • Global admin privileges.
  • Intune Administrator.

User requirements:

  • Devices should be Azure joined or enrolled in Intune Company Portal.

How To Deploy the Add-in via Intune

Get the latest MSI installer file:

Setup Intune:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Intune admin center.

  2. Select Apps > All apps.

  3. Click the + Add button.

  4. Select the app type Line-of-business apps for .msi.

    You can install the following app types in the device context and assign these apps to a device group:

    • Win32 apps
    • Offline licensed Microsoft Store for Business apps
    • LOB apps (MSI, APPX and MSIX)
    • Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise

  5. After choosing the app type, click on the Select button located at the bottom right.

  6. Select the app file and fill out any required details on the App information tab.

  7. On the Assignments tab fill out the assignments.

    Note

    You can add an AD group of specific users, add all users, or add all devices.

  8. On the Review + create tab, review the details, and click Create.

Note

This will take time to fully deploy the app to all users.

Disable Auto-Update Messaging via Registry Setting

In centrally deployed environments, users will receive update prompts for Altus for Project even though they do not have permission to perform updates locally.

To suppress this message, configure the following registry setting:

Required Setting
Set the value to 1 to disable the version check prompt.

Deploy Auto-Update Setting Intune

  • Download the AfPAdministrativeTemplates.zip and extract the files.
  • Import the Windows Template first:
    • Go to the Intune admin center → Devices → Configuration → Import ADMX tab → Import.
    • Specify the Windows.admx file and Windows.adml file

  • Import the AltusProjectDisableUpdate template:
    • Go to the Intune admin center → Devices → Configuration → Import ADMX tab → Import.
    • Specify the AltusProjectDisableUpdate.admx file and AltusProjectDisableUpdate.adml file

  • Create a new policy: Devices → Configuration → Create → New policy
    • Platform: Windows 10 and later
    • Profile Type: Templates.
    • Templates → Imported Administrative templates (Preview) (It appears in the long list under Templates — scroll down if needed.)

  • Create Profile
    • Enter a name: Altus for Project Disable Update
    • Next → Configuration Settings → Add
    • You will now see the category Altus for Microsoft Project. Expand it → set “Disable Altus for Project auto-update check” to Enabled
    • Assignments: Assign to user groups (best for HKCU / class=User policies)
    • Review + Create.
